Hatchet 3 (by Decker Shado)

Hatchet 3 is the horror film of 2013 of the Hatchet series. It is a follow-up to the murderous adventures of Victor Crowley through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn portrays Deputy Winslow, Rileah vanderbilt portrays Misty.

The practical effects in the film are the film's biggest strengths. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects and sets. This is a departure from many horror movies today that rely heavily upon CG effects. It also features several truly terrifying moments.

Kane Hodder stands out as an formidable villain. The cast gives an impressive performance. The dialogue is sufficiently campy and tongue-in-cheek for it to be reminiscent of a classic 1980s slasher film at times. There are some really funny moments that offer a comic contrast to the heartbreaking violence.

Unfortunately because of the small budget (reportedly only $1 million) most of the locations are re-used from previous films in the series--the identical boat house was used twice in the film and a lot of the (click now to view blog posts) film appears to be a re-use from other films in this series. This can make it seem like it's all too familiar at times especially for people who've already watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2

In the end, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be very like other films in the series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of gory thrills and entertaining performances from its actors.
